What the Google Push service shutdown means for 3CX partners

Affects all customers who use the 3CX APP for Android!

Google will discontinue support for its legacy Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) APIs on June 20, 2024. This affects the legacy HTTP and XMPP protocols used by many applications, including the 3CX phone systems, to implement push notifications. Here we explain what this means for you and your customers and how you can prepare for it.

Why is this important?

Push notifications play a crucial role in the functioning of modern telephone systems, as they are used to "wake up" the 3CX app to incoming calls and messages. This is particularly important for the battery life of mobile devices and the reliability of call answering.

What is changing?

With the discontinuation of the legacy APIs by Google, all applications that use them for push notifications must be converted to the newer HTTP v1 APIs. For 3CX users, this means that an update to the new v.20 must be carried out in order to be able to use the new API.
